Geometry over Finite Fields
June 25 – July 6, 2007

Finite fields play an important role in theoretical mathematics and also have significant applications, for instance in communications systems through coding theory and cryptography. These
disciplines have evolved over recent decades, and where once the focus
was on algebraic curves over finite fields, recent developments have
revealed the increasing importance of higherdimensionals algebraic
varieties over finite fields.
The purpose of this meeting is to highlight recent developments and new techniques in algebraic geometry over finite fields with particular attention to the application of geometric techniques to the study of higherdimensional algebraic varieties over finite fields. Lecturers
